Summary of ODS Seizures & iPIC Consultations

Ozone Protection Medals for Customs & Enforcement Officers from Bosnia & Herzegovina, China, Croatia, European Union, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Customs & Enforcement Officers from Bosnia & Herzegovina, China, Croatia, European Union, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan will receive the Ozone Protection Award 2016 of UNEP’s Regional Ozone Network for Europe & Central Asia (ECA network) during the forthcoming Customs Cooperation Meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 24-25 May 2016.

In the period from May 2014 to April 2016, the award winners reported 32 successful seizures of 10156 refrigerant cylinders/containers containing more than 68 metric tons of ozone-depleting chemicals and mixtures. Informal Prior Informed Consent (iPIC) consultations prior to the issuance of trade licenses avoided 16 unwanted/illegal shipments of more than 174 metric tons of ozone-depleting chemicals and mixtures.

The award has been endorsed by the World Customs Organization, Ozone Secretariat, Multilateral Fund Secretariat, UNEP’s OzonAction Programme as well as Turkmenistan as the host country. Representatives of all organizations will sign the award certificates.
